John is Senior Partner of Robert H Schaffer & Associates. He works with organizations to successfully implement new strategic directions, improve operational performance, or manage through periods of significant change. He has worked with the Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, and IT leaders of many multinational corporations to reduce the cost and increase the strategic contribution of corporate staff functions.
Among the corporations he has served in recent years are global leaders in banking, insurance, publishing, consumer packaged goods, and pharmaceuticals.
John is a periodic conference speaker on leadership topics and he has published articles on internal audit and performance management. His recent piece, "The Best of BPM: Visionaries Set the Tone for the Future of Performance Management," was published last year by BPM Magazine. His article on best practices in internal audit, "How Audit Earns Plaudits" was published in Financial Executive magazine. He developed a series of video programs on the same topic for the Financial Management Network. He has served for 10 years on the panel of judges for Business Finance magazine's Vision Award, recognizing outstanding achievement in business performance management.
Prior to joining Schaffer Consulting, John was a consultant and partner in Gunn Partners for 12 years. In addition to his consulting work there, he directed the firm's marketing activities for a time and led best practice research projects focused on the revenue and internal audit processes.
He earned his M.B.A. degree at Harvard University and holds an A.B. with distinction in economics from Dartmouth College
