Evan Smith

Evan Smith is a consultant with Schaffer Consulting. Through 2001, he worked with Cabot Corporation (a specialty chemicals manufacturer) as Director of Global Quality in Boston, Massachusetts. Recent projects have included supply-chain process design and implementation, competency management system development and implementation, and large-scale distribution channel productivity improvement projects, focused on top-line growth.

Evan has worked with public and privately held companies in aerospace, chemicals, financial services, technology, medical products and consumer durables industries, and has served in financial, quality, information systems and human resource management roles. He has written about organizational, process and technology efforts supporting cross-organizational product development in the automotive and aerospace industries with Harvard University (project titled "Manufacturing Partnerships in the Digital Environment"). He has also helped to start and operate several small businesses, including developing and selling revenue models and business plans, setting product/service pricing and quality/delivery standards, establishing required financial systems and controls, and leading major account development.

Evan began his career with GE, completing the Information Systems Management Program as part of the Aerospace Business Group, working as a systems analyst and information systems manager. Since then, Evan's experience includes having served as Director of Global Quality for Cabot, overseeing 300 quality professionals, more than 30 plant laboratories around the world, and ISO 9001: 2000 business management system development; being a Vice President and Manager of Reengineering & Business Analysis within Shawmut Investment Advisors prior to Shawmut Bank's merger with Fleet Financial Group; working in financial services, Evan worked in internal consulting roles for The Dexter Corporation, a Fortune 500 manufacturer of engineered materials.

He has also has helped to develop and start-up an industry association focused on improving risk management, quality and business processes in the financial services industry; served as a business plan evaluator for the National Nonprofit Organizations Business Plan Competition (through The Yale School of Management, The Goldman Sachs Foundation, and The Pew Charitable Trusts); and serves as an adjunct faculty member at the State University of New York - Empire State College, teaching business process, management information systems, and knowledge management to adult learners in the College's Forum Management Program.

Evan earned his MBA from the Yale School of Organization and Management. He holds a B.S. in Industrial & Management Systems Engineering and a B.A. in Liberal Arts from the Pennsylvania State University. He has also completed executive management development through Cabot and the Harvard Business School. He is certified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a psychological instrument that provides feedback on individuals' preferences for processing information and making decisions.

He is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC) and the New England Executive Resource Council (NEERC).
